The Detroit News: “Starting today, ‘NewsHour with Jim Lehrer’ takes viewers on an unusual, four-day journey into the world of Arab art and culture.
Proving that the media all too often focus on the strife in the Middle East and not the beauty, the news series is serving up a number of profiles on Arab artists taking part in the Kennedy Center’s Arabesque Festival. The latter is a three-week celebration featuring the art and culture of one of the world’s most creative, volatile and dynamic regions. Senior correspondent Jeffrey Brown traveled to the Middle East recently to see artists at work in their native countries and to talk about their lives and the issues and challenges they face.
The festival, ‘Arabesque: Arts of the Arab World,’ opens today at Washington’s John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and features more than 800 performers and artists from 22 Arab nations.”
